The Straw Bale House was timber framed using all juniper (what we generally call cedar) using trees locally sourced from our land here in Northern Alabama. Juniper can be used without curing as it has minimal shrinkage, and it resists rot well. As with many phases of the project, we had a lot of much-appreciated help from The Farm in Tennessee, whose Eco Village Training Program provided many apprentice workers who helped in exchange for food, lodging, and a chance to learn these skills, and some more skilled ones who worked for living wages.
